Khumbu is a region of the Himalayan plateau It is located in the northeastern part of Nepal and is part of the Solukhumbu district, about 160 km from Kathmandu, in (Sagarmatha National Park) Khumbu is also one of the sub-regions of (Khambu) where the Himalayan Sherpas live, and where the Thulung is spoken. This region also includes the town of Namche Bazar, as well as other villages such as Thame, Khumjung, Pheriche and Kunde.
Mt Everest, 8,050 meters (29,035 feet). Sir george Everest gave it His name. It is called Chomolungma by the local Sherpas, which means “the Goddess mother of the world” in relation to her Chinese name Qomolangma. His Nepali Name, Sagarmatha, means the forehead of heaven. Sherpas have benefited from the expansion of mountain tourism in the Everest region and own many hotel and transportation facilities. They pass on their Buddhist culture and love values to many foreign visitors.
